For Bass Culture’s 10th release D’julz welcome back Colin McBean, aka Mr. G. Having first worked his recently released ‘Still Here (Get Down)’ artist album on Rekids, Mr. G now makes his full debut on Bass Culture with the ‘Extended Pain’ E.P. Two devastatingly good originals in the form of ‘Sunday Blues‘ and ‘JB’s‘ sees the Mr. G revisiting those classic, deeper sounds, whilst delivering the fresh and upfront tastes as only he can. Repaying the remix favour for BC003 is Esperanza boss and Bass Culture favourite, Kasper. Getting to grips with ‘Sunday Blues’ the Madrid man turns the smooth mood of the original on its head. Industrial sized beats, blinding rides and a preciously warped synth line, give a whole new face to already beautiful original.

El sello de Mr G y D’Julz’s continua manteniendo el nivelazo, tal y como demuestra este EP. Dos rodajas de deep house de primera división, con el añadido de la magia que Mr G añade a sus producciones. “Jbs” tiene matices prog, mientras que Sundae Blues tiene toques old-school y vibe de amaneceres. El dueño de Esperanza, Kasper, hace una remezcla de este último para acercarlo a caminos más techno y percusivos. 8/10 Mix destacado: Sundae Blues

Die neue EP von Mr. G federt auf diesem sehr präzisen ausgewogenen Killerhouse-sound, den man von ihm gewohnt ist und beginnt mit “JB’s” fast versunken deep in einer Stimmung, die einen über diesen einen Akkord im Hintergrund immer weiter in die übernächtigte Eleganz der Zeitlosigkeit hineinträgt. Mit “Sunday Blues” wird es dann fast zuckersüß in den Vocals im Hintergrund und dieser einfachen Zweitonmelodie, die schon alles sagen kann. Abstrakt, ohne dass man es wirklich merkt, dieser Sound, und das ist wirklich eine Kunst. Der Remix von Kaspar bringt den Track dann auf den großen Technofloor und würde für unsere Ohren perfekt ins Berghain passen.

Colin McBean’s enjoyed a resurgence in popularity this year, and very well deserved it is too. Here, he delivers two effortlessly grooving techno-house cuts, imbued with all the echoing vocals, rich bass and yes, the patented rides we’ve come to know and love. Kasper’s remix starts out with some menace in its mind but soon settles into more sultry chord-based business. Still, this one’s all about the G. 8/10
